It’s no secret that buying a gaming laptop should be approached carefully, since the power limits of the same video card model, depending on the PC model, can be very different. It turns out that in some cases they are not the only ones.

A mobile GeForce RTX 3070 should have 5120 CUDA cores, which is clearly stated on Nvidia’s website. However, in the Alienware m15 R5 laptop, this adapter for some reason only has 4608 CUDA cores. This was discovered by the buyers of this device. That being said, the m15 R4 offers the normal version of the RTX 3070.

Supposedly Dell has reduced the number of CUDA cores to reduce the power consumption of the adapter, but in any case, the card now does not meet the specifications of Nvidia itself. There are no comments from Dell or Nvidia yet, but they will be important for understanding the situation. If this is not a problem for any of the companies publicly, other manufacturers may follow Dell’s example.
