When the latest Sony TV isn’t the best choice for the PS5. Sony X900 / HK90 has issues at 4K and 120Hz

The newest Sony X900 / HK90 TV (name varies by region) may seem to some to be the best option to work with the PlayStation 5, because both devices are made by Sony and both support 4K @ 120Hz.

However, it turned out that the above link does not work as desired in the latter case. When activating the 120Hz mode, the source was surprised to find that objects disappear and textures shrink in games. In addition, the picture becomes more blurry, and not only with the PlayStation 5.

The problem appears to have two root causes. Firstly, the console needs to process much more data in order to display the picture in the full 120 Hz mode, and secondly, in the TV panel itself, apparently, there are some hardware limitations.

As a result, Sony released an update for the TV, which should, among other things, solve the problem of image blur. But tests have shown that it is not so simple. Firstly, the blur effect is not removed completely, but only decreases, and secondly, this is realized by using a high-definition filter, and thirdly, the picture in the 60 Hz mode still remains better than in the 120 Hz mode.
