Today marks the 48th anniversary of the first cell phone: the US and Russia celebrate the event with a drop in prices for smartphones

Exactly 48 years ago, on April 3, 1973, the first ever cellular call was made using a mobile phone.

It was done by Motorola engineer Martin Cooper, who called the head of Bell Laboratories’ design bureau using the Motorola DynaTac. The device can only be called mobile. Motorola DynaTac weighed one and a half kilograms and was more like a brick in size. It consisted of over 2000 parts and had no display at all. The model could be put on sale only 10 years later – in September 1983. The first mobile then cost $ 3995.

Motorola, now owned by the Chinese Lenovo, decided to mark this event with a sale. Substantial discounts are offered in the US. The 2nd generation Moto Razr clamshell is offered at a discount of $ 400 – $ 1,000 instead of the previous $ 1,400, the Motorola Edge smartphone – with a $ 300 discount ($ 400 for the previous $ 800), the flagship Motorola Edge + is offered a $ 200 discount ($ 800 for the previous $ 1,000) … In Russia, the official Motorola edge + store is now offered for 69,990 instead of the previous 81,990 rubles.

Also in Russia “Svyaznoy” celebrates the birthday of a mobile phone. As part of the action, discounts of up to 20 thousand rubles are promised. A special mention deserves, for example, the clamshell Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, a competitor to the Moto Razr 2, at a price of 59,990 rubles or the Samsung Galaxy Note20 for 54,990 rubles. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip originally debuted in Russia a year ago at a price of 119,990 rubles, now on the Samsung website the price is set at 79,990 rubles, taking into account a discount of 10 thousand rubles. Galaxy Note20 in the official Samsung store costs 64,990 rubles, also including a discount of 12 thousand rubles.
