The rating of mandatory applications for smartphones in Russia has been determined

The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Digital Science of Russia) has decided on a list of Russian applications and services that are planned to be installed without fail on all smartphones and other devices in Russia.

The Ministry of Digital Development has formed a rating of the popularity of programs based on data provided by companies and confirmed by independent audit reports. In total, the ministry received about 100 applications from software manufacturers. After analyzing the applications, a list of products recommended for pre-installation was formed.

As a result, Yandex products are in the lead in the category of browsers, search, navigation systems and cloud services for storing data, in the categories “email”, “news aggregator”, “social networks” – Mail.ru, among anti-virus systems – Kaspersky, office software – “My office”. Also, the social service State Services and the Mir payment system will be installed on electronic devices.

Once approved by the Government, the programs with the largest number of unique users will be installed on smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, laptops and personal computers.

According to the rules already adopted by the Russian Government, 16 Russian-developed applications must be installed on all smartphones and tablets produced and sold in Russia. Three applications became mandatory for computers, and four for smart TVs. Among these applications are browsers, search engines, maps, cloud storage programs, mail, instant messengers, voice assistants, news aggregators, programs for accessing online broadcasts and access to social networks, as well as the very same audio-visual services, services for the payment system ” World ”, office software and antiviruses.

The so-called “law against Apple”, which caused a great public outcry in 2019, was planned to come into force on July 1, 2020. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was decided to postpone the introduction until January 1, 2021. At the end of November, the Ministry of Finance once again postponed the deadline, this time until April 1, 2021.
