The number of paid Spotify users reaches 144 million

Spotify has published a report for the past quarter. The most important quarterly results in the report include the growth in the number of subscribers of the popular streaming service and such indicator as the number of active users per month (MAU). Gross profit was better than expected by the company (it is equal to 24.8%), and free cash flow amounted to 103 million euros.

More specifically, MAUs increased 29% YoY to 320 million. Growth was particularly pronounced outside of North America and Europe, which is understandable since these markets have long been covered by Spotify. In total, there are now 144 million paid service users and 185 million users who prefer not to pay, but to receive advertising.

Quarterly revenue for the year increased by 5%, from 1.731 billion to 1.975 billion euros. At the same time, the company earned 1.790 billion euros from users of paid services. This figure is 15% more than in the third quarter of last year. Growth in the advertising segment was 9% – from 170 to 185 million euros.

The quarter ended with an operating loss of € 50 million. For comparison: in the previous quarter, the loss was equal to 167 million euros, while in the third quarter of last year, the company received 54 million euros in profit.
