Research firm IDC published the results of research on the smartphone market in Western Europe in the third quarter of this year. The smartphone industry has been hit hard, but some companies have been able to quickly recover and improve their sales figures.

Samsung maintains the top spot despite shipments falling from 11 million units in the third quarter of 2019 to 10.3 million in the third quarter of 2020. This allowed Samsung to take 35.6% of the smartphone market.

Apple came in second with 8.2 million smartphones shipped, giving the company a 28.5% market share. A year earlier, the company shipped 8.1 million smartphones and held 26.4% of the market. The third place is taken by Xiaomi, which increased shipments by 151.6%, having shipped 3.7 million smartphones and taking 12.8% of the European market.

Analysts unanimously claim that Huawei will strongly lose ground in the global smartphone market next year, but this has already happened in Europe. The company lost ground by 58.7% year on year, and its market share fell from 20 to 8.8%.

Overall, 28.8 million smartphones were shipped in Western Europe in the third quarter.
