Tesla recalls thousands of Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles due to seat belt problems

Tesla is forced to recall more than 7,000 2018-2020 Model 3 and 2019-2021 Model Y electric vehicles due to seat belt problems.

In the first revocation notice posted on the NHTSA website this week, the manufacturer reported that 5,530 of the Model 3 and Model Y had a manufacturing defect. One or both of the attachments that secure the front seat shoulder strap to the B-pillar may be incorrectly attached.

In a second recall notice, the automaker said that potentially 2,166 Model Ys could have second-row seat belt retractors improperly attached.

In addition, Tesla has recalled several hundred vehicles in China with the same problem.

In each case, a service technician will inspect the machine and, if necessary, repair or replace fasteners or retractors.

Tesla says it is unaware of any accidents or injuries caused by these defects.
