Sony’s schedule to transfer smartphones to Android 11 disappoints: a lot of models left behind

Sony has not yet revealed its plans to release a fresh Android 11 operating system to the public. Meanwhile, the Japanese resource AndroidNext was able to get a document with the update schedule.

According to the source, Sony is planning the following:

Android 11 for Sony Xperia 1 II (XQ-AT52) – early December 2020 Android 11 for Sony Xperia 5 II (XQ-AS52) – early December 2020 Android 11 for Sony Xperia 1 (J9110) – January 2021 Android 11 for Sony Xperia 5 (J9210) – January 2021 Android 11 for Sony Xperia 10 II (XQ-AU52) – Q2 2021

As we can see, the flagship smartphones of the current year, the Xperia 1 II and Xperia 5 II, are the first in line, followed by last year’s Xperia 1 and Xperia 5, as well as the mid-range model Xperia 10 II.

However, many models may not be updated. According to earlier reports, the Sony Xperia 10, Xperia 10 Plus, Xperia Ace, Xperia 8 and Xperia 8 Lite will forever remain on Android 10, and none of those models will ever see Android 11.
