Yesterday AMD introduced the Radeon RX 6000 graphics card. As we learned a little later, each CU in the new GPUs contains one Ray Accelerators, which is responsible for accelerating ray tracing.

However, this does not tell us anything about the performance of the new cards in the respective tasks.

AMD itself provides a partial answer to the performance question. She tested the Radeon RX 6800 XT in the Procedural Geometry benchmark using the Microsoft DXR SDK. The result is 471 fps versus 630 fps for the RTX 3080, that is, the gap is quite large. True, it is unclear at what settings AMD itself was testing, while the data for the GeForce was obtained at the default settings. There is also a result for the RTX 3090 – 749 fps.

Of course, it is impossible to draw any conclusions based on one test, and even without accurate data on the settings. Besides, if we’re talking about games, now they all support Nvidia’s technology, which relies on DirectX 12 capabilities, and it’s unclear if AMD cards will work with it at all.
