Western Digital recently completed its first quarter of fiscal 2021. The corresponding report was published yesterday.

Western Digital had quarterly revenue of $ 3.99 billion. In the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, quarterly revenue was $ 4.04 billion, a 3% annualized decline. The authors of the report clarify that in the Client Devices segment, sales increased by 20%, but in the Data Center Devices and Solutions segment, revenue decreased by 26%, and in the Client Solutions segment – by 5%.

Operating income of $ 70 million was generated during the quarter. By comparison, in the same period a year ago, the company suffered an operating loss of $ 129 million. However, the result of the quarter, like a year ago, turned out to be a net loss, although it must be admitted that this indicator has improved – if a year ago the net loss was equal to $ 276 million, then in the last quarter it will be $ 60 million.

Non-GAAP calculation yields different results. It turns out that operating profit for the year increased from $ 235 to $ 323 million, that is, by 37%, and net profit – from $ 101 to $ 196 million, that is, by 94%.
