IKEA Introduces Photo Frame Column You Can’t Insert Photos

Swedish furniture company IKEA partnered with US audio equipment brand Sonos a few years ago to integrate electronics into furniture that blends in with your décor. IKEA today unveiled a photo frame-shaped Wi-Fi speaker called Symfonisk.

The device is not a digital photo frame, that is, it does not have a display for displaying images. Moreover, a regular photo cannot be inserted into the frame. It’s just that this speaker is designed in such a way that it can be hung on the wall next to photographs or paintings. IKEA has also added rubber feet if you choose to place the device on a table. The front panel can be selected at time of order – users are offered several options from artist Jennifer Idrizi.

Symfonisk lets you stream music wirelessly. These speakers can be used to play different content in different rooms. Or you can group them so that one melody plays throughout the house. The speaker has built-in basic playback and volume controls and can be controlled using the Sonos mobile app, available for Android and iOS. With this app, you can also pair this speaker with compatible Sonos sound systems.

The device is priced at $ 199 in the US and € 179 in Europe. Sales start on July 15th.
