Google unveils big Android Auto update: better messenger experience, redesigned interface for multimedia, and more

Google has introduced a number of innovations for the Android Auto platform, and some functions have already become available to motorists.

Google today announced that it will expand its support for a variety of third-party applications, including charging apps for electric vehicles, navigation, and more.

Support for messaging apps has also been enhanced. A universal “application” is now offered for almost all messengers on your phone. As a result, users can access all messengers such as Google Messages, WhatsApp and Google Voice on the Android Auto home screen, and send and listen to messages using the Google Assistant. The latter became available to users around the world.

There are also new customization options. You can customize the home screen directly from your smartphone and manually set the dark mode.

Most notably, Google has introduced a new tabbed navigation for multimedia apps on Android Auto. A redesigned UI for YouTube Music was recently reported. It looks like other apps will soon be able to use a similar tabbed interface, including Spotify.

Another improvement for working with multimedia content is a new scrolling and search option “from A to Z”, which makes it easier to navigate the playlist.

These Android Auto features are available on smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and on compatible vehicles.
