Elon Musk promised to double the speed of Starlink satellite Internet this year

SpaceX launches Starlink satellites almost every week, and in large numbers – 60 pieces at a time. Not surprisingly, Elon Musk has already predicted a significant improvement in the speed of his satellite internet.

According to him, this year the speed of access to the network through the Starlink system will increase to 300 Mbit / s – more than twice in comparison with the current figures. The latency in data transmission will be reduced: it will decrease to about 20 ms.

Speed will double to ~300Mb/s & latency will drop to ~20ms later this year

Most of Earth by end of year, all by next year, then it’s about densifying coverage.

Important to note that cellular will always have the advantage in dense urban areas.

Satellites are best for low to medium population density areas.

Almost at the same time, Musk announced that next year, Starlink satellite Internet will cover the entire planet, and this year – most of it. At the same time, he clarified that in areas of high-density residential development, cellular communication will always have an advantage, but for open areas or areas with a low population density, satellite Internet is better suited.
