The VKontakte social network team announced the launch of a new function. “Clips” VKontakte launched the first videophone with augmented reality technology.

It was created together with the Mariinsky Theater and is timed to coincide with Ballet Day, which takes place on 29 October this year. In honor of the holiday, the Mariinsky Theater invites users to participate in Alexei Ratmansky’s production of Concerto DSCH. It is enough for the author of the video to include a videophone in the “Clips”, and he will be on stage among the dancing soloists of the theater and corps de ballet.

As the developers explain, AR backgrounds with 360 ° technology transfer the author of the video into a virtual space that changes with the way the user moves the camera. It is noted that there is no such opportunity in any other service for creating and viewing short vertical videos, the backgrounds were only static, but now they can be dynamic.

In September, VKontakte’s clips received 5.5 billion views, and in August they updated the engagement record – over 211 million views per day.
