According to TASS, during the MAKS-2021 air show, which is ending today, an aircraft with the world’s first superconducting electric aircraft engine – the Yak-40LL flying laboratory equipped with a hybrid power plant – took off for the first time.

An electric motor with a power of 500 kW on high-temperature superconductors, intended for use in aviation, was created by specialists of the Superox company under a contract with the Advanced Research Fund.

“An experimental laboratory with an electrical installation based on the Yak-40, the plane took off for the first time at the air show. The flight took place normally, ”the agency quotes the words of an official representative of the Advanced Research Fund.

The ground test phase was conducted earlier this year.
