Apple has indeed taken a step back. What are iPhone 12 batteries?

Apple traditionally does not disclose the exact parameters of the batteries in its mobile devices. The manufacturer is limited by the declared battery life. Enthusiasts consider it their duty to find out what the actual battery capacity of each iPhone model is.

So it happened with the iPhone 12 line. On paper, everything looks more than optimistic and new items are basically not inferior to the previous generations of Apple smartphones. The only exception is the compact iPhone 12 mini – 15 hours, noticeably less than 17 hours for the iPhone 11, but the same as the iPhone XS Max, and 2 hours more than the iPhone SE.

Now, thanks to the database of the Brazilian regulator ANATEL, the exact containers are known:

iPhone 12 mini – 2227 mAh iPhone 12 – 2815 mAh

For comparison, the iPhone 11 has a 3,110 mAh battery. As we can see, not only the iPhone 12 mini is inferior to it, but also the iPhone 12.

For the models of the iPhone 12 Pro line, the regulator has not yet opened the capacities. However, back in the summer there was a leak claiming that the ‌iPhone 12‌ mini will receive a 2227 mAh battery, and the iPhone 12‌ and 12 Pro – 2775 mAh. As we can see, at least one part of this leak has been confirmed. It can be assumed that the iPhone 12 Pro has a capacity of 2775 mAh. Earlier certification also pointed to a 3,687mAh battery for the ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌ Max, but it’s unclear how accurate this information is.

The iPhone 11 Pro uses a 3046 mAh battery, while the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 3969 mAh battery. Apple has managed to avoid the drop in battery life on the iPhone 12 line, despite the reduced capacity batteries, by moving to the more efficient A14 Bionic platform.
