AMD recognizes Apple’s success with its M1 SoC, but says it’s ready to fight

AMD Corporate Vice President David McAfee praised Apple and its M1 SoC in a recent interview.

What Apple did is take a different approach to chip design. This approach is to provide a high performance single-thread processor similar to AMD’s Zen 3 series processors. a kind of transfer to the PC space from the methodology of designing mobile phones.

Thus, AMD, unlike Intel, recognizes Apple’s successes with its first computer platform and even compares the latter to the latest Ryzen CPUs.

At the same time, McAfee noted that Apple’s success is not a disaster for AMD:

I don’t think what Apple has done is fundamentally changing AMD’s strategy. When we look at our roadmap for the future, I think we have a very competitive roadmap compared to what Apple is doing. AMD leads the way in performance, energy efficiency and manufacturing technology. We can continue to do this despite any steps that Intel or Apple may take. Ultimately we will find ourselves in a very strong competitive position.
