Almost waited: OLED TVs will finally get cheaper

TCL has officially announced that it is preparing to start producing OLED TVs. These TVs will go on sale around 2023 and will mark the company’s entry into the premium TV segment. This news is interesting because these devices will be cheaper than modern models.

Despite the fact that in recent years the production of OLED screens has grown and many manufacturers are switching to this technology, it is still quite expensive. Usually, as production rises, the price goes down, but in the case of OLEDs, this happens very slowly. According to TechRadar, the method TCL will use to make OLED panels could be significantly cheaper than current ones. These savings will help lower the bottom line for new TVs.

An alternative method of OLED production is to use inkjet printed panels (IJPs), which “print” OLED displays between glass layers, instead of the traditional “white OLED” (WOLED) panels used in modern OLED TVs and produced with a more complex and expensive technological process.

The source adds that the transition to such technology will reduce the cost of production by up to 25%. Of course, this will lead to increased competition in the market, where LG Display is still in the lead.
