All-new Kia Sportage 2022 presented in Europe: it’s actually a different car

Kia has finally unveiled the all-new Kia Sportage 2022 crossover for the European region. The novelty is built on the same platform that is used in the South Korean and American versions, however, it is shorter and has visual differences. In addition, the vehicle has different suspension and steering settings.

The overall dimensions of the European version are 4515 x 1865 x 1645 mm with a wheelbase of 2680 mm, while the car previously announced in the USA and South Korea has dimensions of 4660 x 1865 x 1660 mm with a wheelbase of 2755 mm. But the developers claim that there is still enough space inside due to the competent layout.

The volume of the luggage compartment has decreased by 46 liters, to 591 liters, with the rear seat fully folded, the volume of the luggage compartment increases to 1,780 liters. For maximum convenience, the rear seats can be folded in a 40: 20: 40 ratio. For the first time in Europe, it will be possible to order a version with a black roof, in addition, the GT-Line sports package will be available to customers.

Several models of hybrids and diesel options are available in the lineup. The rechargeable Kia Sportage 2022 PHEV is powered by a 180 hp 1.6 T-GDI turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine and 66.9 kW traction electric motor. The power plant includes a 13.8 kWh battery. The combined power of the power plant is 265 hp. The classic Sportage HEV hybrid received the same engine and 44.2 kW traction electric motor, as well as a 1.49 kWh battery. The total power of the Sportage HEV power plant is 230 hp. The same engine is featured in the Mild Hybrid Powertrain (MHEV). A 1.6-liter diesel with 115 or 136 hp will also be available. The transmission can be 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic.

Kia’s acclaimed Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology, also known as DriveWise, helps the new Sportage avoid potential hazards by protecting passengers and other road users on every journey. As part of the DriveWise ADAS package, the new Sportage is equipped with Kia’s industry-leading collision avoidance system, which helps avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles when turning left at intersections.

Highway Driving Assist (HDA) maintains a set distance and speed from the vehicle in front when driving on the highway and helps center the new Sportage in its lane. HDA can also adjust the speed of the vehicle according to the speed limit.

Navigation-Based Intelligent Cruise Control (NSCC) helps drive the new Sportage at a safe speed using real-time navigation data. The technology automatically slows down when cornering. Returning to “straight”, the NSCC ramps up the speed to the original level.

The steering system has been improved and a new electronically controlled suspension (ECS) has been implemented. The electronically controlled all-wheel drive system ensures optimal power distribution between the front and rear wheels, depending on road conditions and driving situations, not only improving driving performance, but also increasing safety and efficiency. For the first time in the Sportage, Terrain Mode will appear, which automatically adjusts the settings of the car so that it moves optimally in mud, snow and sand. In addition, the driver has access to the driving settings “Comfort”, “Eco” or “Sport”.

The multimedia system and instrument panel are presented on two 12.3-inch screens (the previously released version is equipped with 10.25-inch screens). There is a place for wireless charging of a 15W smartphone. You can connect to your car from your smartphone via the Kia Connect app, accessing services, navigation, voice control, and more.

Car sales in Europe will start at the end of the year, prices will be announced later.
